A career development framework is a tool that sets out a goal of the learners as to what should they can do or know when their education is complete. This framework has been revised in 2020 and as per the revised version, the framework helps the individuals in identifying the skills, developing their goals regarding career prospects, and taking action to improve their career.
The main aim of the career development framework is to clarify the knowledge, skills, and behavior that individuals require being to have a successful career. Therefore, career development has been formulated to help individuals to assess their strengths, weakness, and improvement areas for their growth and development, look out for various career opportunities thereby setting career goals, and create their career plan accordingly. This framework is used by career counselors to help guide and coach the people to identify their career goals and any opportunities associated and help the individual to provide the right direction that helps the individual to achieve their career goals.
Gatsby Benchmark is a framework that helps school and college students in developing the right career planning. This framework is highly recommended for a good career practice. This benchmark has been discovered by Sir John Holman which was a result of his research in the year 2013. The main aim of this framework is to identify various ways by which career guidance is improved. However, the major objective of this framework is to provide young people with resources or tools that help them in creating a successful career. Also, it aims at improving the student's social mobility by providing them with social capital.
Approaches to Quality Standards in Career improvement
The quality standards can be applied to the responsibilities and activities involved in the development and continuous improvement of career information advice and guidance services through the following approaches.
This approach has been extracted from the quality standard guide from the British National Advisory Council for Career and Educational Guidance which includes the following checklists for the guidance service and career advisor to adhere to. Firstly, the core standards include the competence of staff, feedback, monitoring, and networking. Secondly, with the use of the British NACCEG standards which is based on the ethical code of conduct issued by the institute of the career guidance which can be applied to responsibilities such as confidentiality, Impartiality, Accessibility, and equal opportunities. Furthermore, the quality standard is linked to the accreditation system where the professionals can apply for accreditation formally.
Another approach through which quality standards are applied to the responsibilities of career information advice and guidance service is through learning outcomes which help the guidance service to examine different competencies among the individual such as skills required to participate in training and work, the skills to improve the career change and understanding the frequent changes in the roles and responsibilities of males and females.
One of how the quality standards are applied to the responsibilities of guidance service is that to evaluate the effectiveness of the guidance itself so that the responsibilities of career advisors can be enhanced. These quality indicators include referral to another specialist of guidance service, well-trained staff who are responsible to deliver the services. Also, there should be transparency and coherence in the provision of the guidance service and there should be valid and legitimate information on the career. Furthermore, one of the major quality indicators would be that the guidance service must be the focus on the client. In other words, the service should be client-centered. Finally, there must be follow-up done with the clients so that they do not deviate and can get maximum benefits related to their career growth and eventually contribute to the development of career information advice or guidance service.
